Tulum Weather in May
Tulum weather in May is definitely a great time of year, and most certainly my favorite month by a long shot. May is that perfect month when winter is out of the way, but the scorching heat of summer hasn’t arrived yet either, there’s no chance of hurricanes and very little chance of rain as well, just a fantastic month for yoga, beach walks, cocktails, al fresco dining and chilling at beach clubs.
Bring the sunscreen and a hat during May in Tulum, the temperatures get up above 90 in the heat off the day and every single day in the month will be over 80 degrees, so it’s sun sun sun this in May!
During the nights the weather does cool down to the mid 70s and the sea breeze does help a lot if you’re staying by the beach. You might feel it quite hot though if you’re coming from colder climes.
Rainfall in Tulum does increase slightly in May, however it only averages a total of four days rain. When the weather does get a bit rainy it’s usually just a quick shower, and before you know it the sun’s out again and shining brightly.
Humidity also starts to increase in May, and the heat index means it will feel pretty hot at times and the nights can be a little sticky as well, so book an ocean front cabana and take advantage of the cool breeze. The sea temperature will have also risen a little in May, although it’ll still be a refreshing way to cool down from the sun.
May in Tulum is a slower time of year, giving Tulum is characteristically laid-back slow-paced feel. A great thing about May is that you can get some excellent prices at the hotels and cabanas, due to the fact that capacity has dropped down since the high season, and it really is a great time of year to visit the area.
May is an excellent month for exploring the area and taking a few tours during your vacation. Along with the Mayan ruins in Tulum, there’s also the chance to go snorkeling both in the sea and in the cenotes, there’s the eco parks to visit, new additions like Xplor and a whole lot more.
